Galliard Becomes Signatory to the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment

Minneapolis, MN (February 10, 2017) - Galliard Capital Management Inc. announced today that it has become a signatory to the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) (www.unpri.org). Internationally recognized as the world’s leading proponent of responsible investment, the PRI is a network for asset owners and investment managers who are committed to building a more sustainable global financial system and incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into their investment decision making processes.

By becoming a signatory, Galliard commits that, “As institutional investors, we have a duty to act in the best long-term interests of our beneficiaries. In this fiduciary role, we believe that environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) issues can affect the performance of investment portfolios.” As such, we adopt the six Principles of Responsible Investment which include incorporating ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes, seeking appropriate disclosure of ESG issues by the entities in which we invest, and providing transparency by voluntarily reporting on our ESG activities and progress towards implementing the Principles.

Galliard has set forth a set of beliefs in its Environmental, Social, and Governance Investing Mission Statement (view here) and supplemented its research capabilities by partnering with MSCI ESG Research.

“At Galliard, we’ve always believed in the importance of environmental, social, and corporate governance factors in the investment process,” says Richard Merriam, Co-Head of Fixed Income Strategy at Galliard. “By formally adopting this standard into our investment decision making framework, we are affirming that ESG investing is a sound investment principle and aligns with many of our institutional clients’ stated preferences.”

“Galliard has been a long-time supporter of ESG issues,” said PRI managing director Fiona Reynolds. “As long-term investors on behalf of their clients, they understand how looking at ESG considerations can be used to manage risk and enhance returns. We are delighted to welcome them to the PRI.”
